Screenvod vs Screencastify
Screenvod vs Screencastify
The screen recorder where videos live in YOUR Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox — not on someone else's cloud.
Looking for a Screencastify alternative? The difference that matters isn't the feature list — it's where your videos live. With Screenvod, every screen recording goes straight to your own Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox. Screencastify, which used to be Drive-based, now keeps your videos on its own cloud — Google Drive became just an export option.
That changes everything when you cancel, when you need to meet GDPR, or when you simply don't want another tool holding your data. This comparison focuses on what's genuinely different between the two — and where each one wins.

Your videos, your cloud
With Screenvod, you connect the storage you already use and pay for (Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox). Recordings are saved there, in your account. We generate the share link and handle streaming, but the file is yours, in your cloud.
Screencastify started as an extension that saved straight to Google Drive, but today your videos sit on its own infrastructure. You can still export to Drive, but the original lives on Screencastify's cloud — one more data silo outside your control.
No per-seat billing and no lock-in
Screencastify charges per user, and the $7 price only applies to the annual plan (monthly jumps to $19). As your team grows, the cost grows with it. Screenvod is a single plan, with no per-seat billing.
And if you stop paying? With Screenvod, your videos stay in your Drive, exactly where they've always been. With vendor-hosted videos, cancelling can mean losing access or rushing to export everything.
When Screencastify makes more sense
Screencastify is strong in the education world. If you're a teacher, work with Google Classroom, need interactive video quizzes, or want classroom-focused built-in editing, Screencastify was designed exactly for that.
Screenvod is for people who value control, privacy, and predictable cost: professionals and teams who'd rather keep videos in their own cloud, with no lock-in and no per-seat fees.
